Making scientific graphs on PAGES

Can somebody tell me how to get good black & white graphs made on PAGES? The color graphs are beautiful, but too expensive in the journals my husband wants to use. He wants to trace as many a 4 variables across time, so I need 4 different types of lines that will show up in a graph the size of a rolodex card. Thanks

The only thing that you can do with that selected Pages chart is copy it to the clipboard, and see if you can directly paste it into Word as a 72 dpi image. Pages is not a Word clone, and its internal content is not compatible with Microsoft formats.

If Word is having nothing to do with that Pages chart, open the Preview application and choose New from Clipboard. Again, you have a 72 dpi png image which you can either save and add to Word, or export to another image format. That 72 dpi image is not professional grade resolution and may look terrible, which begs for you to generate your chart in a dedicated chart program (e.g. Deltagraph, etc.) and hopefully export as a high resolution item.

Once you generate the chart, you will have to edit individual lines to give them four different Data Symbols, and if preferred, four different shades of gray for the Data Symbols, the connecting line stroke, and the connection line itself. Here is an example of that treatment done entirely within Pages v7.3 on High Sierra, but you should be able to do this with your version of Pages.

I simply opened the chart line colorwell, and chose the next darker shade of gray from left to right as I went downward. I did not bother to make the line size smaller for more aesthetic fitment.

Hi Hetalks_Itype,

a graph the size of a rolodex card

You can resize any object (including a graph) by clicking on it and dragging a corner handle (square).

Or go here to resize:

As to "black" in Pages consisting of RGB (0,0,0), tell your husband to consult the 'guidelines for authors' for that journal.

The answer may be that they will accept only Microsoft Word documents, not Pages documents.

Ian.
