Icon too big to easily see file modification date in Mojave

Hi:

Definitely a "1st world problem", but with a recent upgrade (I think to Mojave), when I navigate to a file in the finder one sees a huge icon but the modification date (which is what I am interested in) is off the bottom of the window and not visible, like this:

To see the modification date, one has to grab the folder resize or scroll window to get to the date:

Doesn't matter what kind of file it is.

Is there a method to show the modification date "front and centre" when one first navigates to the file to save the extra step?

Thank you very much!!!

List View is much more compact view.

You can change the view form the tool bar

From Finder>View>Show Status Bar you will get a sliding icon re-size adjustment

You could also manually modify the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
