Airpods 2 sound pitches up or down when iphone screen wakes up or sleeps

This is my first set of Airpods, so I don't know if this is just a thing with them or not. I have an iPhone XS and brand new set of Airpods and when I'm listening to audio and the screen on my phone changes from on to off or off to on the sound in the Airpods will pitch up or down, respectively. It's not intermittent... it does it, everytime. Every time a notification wakes the screen, it pitches up for a second or so and then when the screen goes back to sleep, pitches down. It sounds like a turntable with a bad motor. I'm guessing its just a day-1 bug, but posting here in case there is a quick-fix.

Thanks!

iPhone XS, iOS 12

I’m having the same issue, iPhone 8 and second gen AirPods - only with Amazon Music and occurs every time the screen wakes or goes off. It’s very annoying as it does not happen with any other music source on the iPhone - I’m wondering if it’s a problem with the AirPods or with the Amazon app (although I can’t replicate if using Bluetooth to any other speaker)

I am having this problem on my iPhone XS as well. Driving me nuts. I actually switched back to AirPods Gen1 it was so bad. But in further testing, I have found that it only seems to occur when listening to Amazon Prime music. If I listen to music through iTunes or Spotify, I'm not able to reproduce. I further paired the AirPods Gen 2 to my iPad and listened to Amazon Prime Music there - and was unable to reproduce. So, for me, the issue seems to be localized to my iPhone XS and Amazon Prime Music...
