How can I accurately check iCloud status before I purchase a disabled device?

I used a reputable internet service to check the iCloud status, that has been reliable to me before and is well reported on on the internet. But after purchased a disabled iPhone that I checked and reportedly the Find My iPhone was turned OFF, I reset the device through iTunes and found the phone is icloud locked. I used the service again and it shows the FMI is off and that the device is not lost or stolen.

What service is reliable anymore to check it? This service still shows the device with the Find My iPhone turned OFF, but even after resetting it twice, it's still activation locked.

No 3rd party websites have access to Apple internal records.

Any information such websites give about Activation Lock is

a guess at best - hope you did not pay too much for the

worthless response..

Either purchase future iPhones through Apple or Apple authorized

iPhone sellers. If you must purchase otherwise, be sure to use

a website that offers buyer protection. Or do the transaction face

to face so you can verify the status of the iPhone.

That is not helpful. Did you not read my question? If you just want sidestep my question, then answer this: Why did Apple take down the feature from their website so that we cant verify the icloud lock status of a device by its SN or IMEI? Are they that greedy that they dont want anyone being able to reliably purchase one of their used products unless they are getting paid for that too?

If the actual status was only a guess by an outside company, how are they able to give the correct SN from the IMEI? Apple is sharing the info with someone although their customer service reps say they are not able to access that information when calling or chatting with them about devices under someone's own ID.

Apple does not answer this type of question here, nor can we.

That site has been offline for several years.

Apple does not share registration data with any 3rd party. They are not being truthful when they indicate the FMIP status.

It is truly caveat emptor. Buy from a trusted source and there should not be an issue. You need to have the device in your hand and attempt to activate to be 100% sure.
