Is gps + cellular version of series 4 required for emergency to be called in event of a fall

The emergency functions require some kind of connectivity to make the call from the watch. All versions can use the link through the paired iPhone provided it is within Bluetooth range, and the cellular watch will use direct cellular if it can’t reach its iPhone.

If you have your iPhone with you GPS only should work fine, however, if you have the GPS + Cellular version it should work with or without your iPhone present.

This is a complicated answer. Yes and no. If you have WiFi calling enabled and are connected to a compatible WiFi network then yes it will call on the GPS only version but if you are not connected to a compatible WiFi network then no it will not work.
