I have an iPad but not an iPhone. The iPad is running iOS 12.2, and has the Oculus app installed. Even so, I have heard that some iPads will not work for setting up Oculus Go, while others do. Is there any way to tell which category mine would fall in?

Oculus Go is compatible with any iPad running iOS 10 or higher. An iPhone is not needed for this app. There shouldn't be any compatibility issues using the iPad on your iPad running iOS 12.2
