What about Character Style editing?

I want to be able to ADD Character styles. Just like I can paragraph styles. I don't want to have to go back to the last time I used it, copy that as a character style, then go back to where I'm working and paste a char. style, I want my own cs like in Pages.

And while I am at it, all the tutorials and manuals say when you highlight a piece of text, a little arrow appears n the para style drawer so you can change/update that style. This does not happen for me. It happened once last week and I can't recreate it or figure out how I got it there. So if you're a styles drawer junkie, and you know this too, please help a sister out!

Thanks!!
