12 watt charger exploded while using

I was using a apple 12 watt charger through a short extension cord and while using I heard a pop. I started to smell smoke and noticed that the adapter had kinda exploded where the prongs are. Since then I have thrown out the extension cord and the adapter but am wondering if it may have damaged my charging port or phone in anyway. It’s still charging normally and max capacity hasn’t dropped but can does anybody know if it could have damaged anything?
