Charger

i don’t know if it is related as the home phone plugged into the top of the wall outlet still works but my house was struck by lightning on the antenna. Anyway I noticed a fairly new 6ft charging cable no longer works. I then tried another cable on that same power adapter/ head later and now it appears that that cable also doesn’t work anymore. Does the power adapter somehow have the ability to instantly short out cables when plugged in ? There also is a melted plastic/chemical smell to the adapter/block
