Exchange 2003 Support in Mail

I cannot understand why iOS4 on iPhone fully supports Exchange 2003 and the Mail.app doesnt !

Why on earth can they not make both work !

Surely this is an oversight ?

Theres no way my company will be upgrading from Exchange 2003 to 2007 soon. And they will not enable IMAP either.

I prefer not to buy Entourage.

Anyone ? Thks

hi

am having same problems but have no idea how to set up Davmail.

I can receive email on mail.app, but cannot send out through Server 2003.

our IT guys say its down to the amount of licences we have on the server, is this the case? we have 12 machines, 10 licenses, but now have 12 machines, plus all the iphones that will access the server for email, which I thought was an extension of your email on your machine which it would sync

my email problems have increased, sometimes it would connect and sometimes it won't, now it constantly won't connect.

should I be looking at cache files or something and trying to clean the system to help kick start the mail?

iPhone and iPad use Active Sync to work with Exchange, Mac uses Outlook Web Services. This is why you can access Outlook 2003 on the iPhone but not on the Mac. If you have access to outlook web access you can use DavMail to work in with your native apps. It isn't perfect though it works great none the less. I have been harking at our IT department to swap email servers and we are almost a month away from moving to Outlook 2010 (so can't wait). Until then DavMail has been the saviour for me. Check it out.
