Incorrect. Snow Leopard Mail does not support Exchange 2003.

Yea, the RPC/Http Vs the Exchange Web Services issue hampers it.

The iPhone uses ActiveSync to sync the Exchange mailbox. mail.app uses Exchange web services. They don't have the same functionality.

Do we have evidence that Outlook 2011 will support Exchange 2003 though ?
I've seen comments otherwise..., and since it's still in beta, it's hard to get confirmation 😟

I have tested this so far and i cannot get it to connect to an exchange 2003 server. I will keep trying to see what i can find out, but if you chose "exchange" then it will not connect. I am sure it will connect with imap or pop, but that is not what im trying to accomplish.

Outlook 2011 for Mac uses Web Services for Exchange.

Mail.app 4 uses Web Services for Exchange.

Exchange 2003 does not support Web Services.

Exchange 2007 and 2010 supports Web Services.

Try DavMail. It is a piece of software that is free which converts Outlook Web Access into formats your native apps recognise. It won't do a couple things like shared calendars though in general it will work with Mail.app, iCal and Address Book. Works a treat. Letterbox plug in for mail also made it look more like outlook.

I would just like to add to this - our NHS MS Exchange is 2003 - no likelihood of upgrade in the near future. This is dreadful - I did buy the Mac because it was said Exchange connection was simple - not realising 2007 was not backwards compatible. My Office Home 2008 for Mac is no use and I am faced with a £400 upgrade to Office Pro. Sorry Apple - we do need a fix that does the job for Mac Mail and does not involve the use of more Microsoft Office software on the Mac. PS - my niece has a similar problem with her University e.mail - must be a really widespread issue.

I still don't understand, however, how my iPhone and iPad are able to sync with my Exchange 2003 account from work and my Mac won't. Can someone be patient with me, and explain this again?
