iPhone does not export new Contacts to iCloud

Nowadays I see new contacts I add from my iPhone 7 plus (last iOS) are not uploaded to iCloud and consequently my iMac does not get this new data.

Both iPhone and iMac are set to sync Contacts, Calendar and other apps.

The problem is only uploading new contacts from iPhone to iCloud.

Importing is okay, let's say I add a new contact in my iMac, it is uploaded to iCloud and then it is downloaded to the iPhone. Same if from iMac Safari icloud.com I add a new contact both Contacts are synced.

I checked Calendar creating a new event in my iPhone and it is "exported" to iCloud.

I've tried some tricks I've read googleing but none fixed the issue, I search in icloud.com for the last name I added and nothing is found.

Thanks for help

No that's not the case. Under no conditions is there an "On My iPhone" option -- I think the only way that happens is if you have no email accounts active on your iPhone, or at least none with contacts turned on. Under these conditions I believe contacts will be saved locally on the iPhone, but there's no setting for that.

If you have more than one email account that has Contacts turned ON, then (and only then) will you see the setting for the Default Account to use for contacts. If only one account has contacts turned on then that is the default and you don't see this setting. But there never is an "On My iPhone" option.

There's something odd with Whatsapp Add to Contacts.

'Create contact from a vcard' another contact sent me via wsapp is uploaded to iCloud while a couple of them I Add to Contacts from wsapp but put by myself names and other stuff won't be uploaded to iCloud (always from iOS)

I also edited them from iOS Contacts having wsapp closed and still no upload to iCloud.

I understand that wsapp is the culprit at first instance.

Would be something hidden that wsapp put into contact data that iOS doesn't interpret so upload isn't successful?

Is that possible?

I’ve only ever set up devices to use iCloud (ie. no On My iPhone, iPad or iMac) and when I look under Contacts Settings I don’t see the Default Account section on either my iPhone or iPad. When I create a new contact it therefore has only one place to go, namely under iCloud and subsequent available for syncing.

Could your setup even though you have set iCloud as the default still be putting newly created contacts under “On My iPhone”, if so it would be on your iPhone but never sync to iCloud and therefore not be seen by your Mac.

All guess work but might be worth investigating.

Sometimes I use Add to Contacts from Whatsapp so I guess missing iCloud contacts were created adding them from Wsapp, don't remember just now.
How can I fix that?

If adding contacts via the native iOS Contacts app is doing what you want, it sounds like Whatsapp is the culprit. The only thing I can suggest is to check Whatsapp's settings (wherever they may reside) and/or contact the developer.

So, in my case I have an ISP POP account that’s just for mail (no contacts) and iCloud account, and because iCloud includes contacts that means I have basically one choice so don’t see the Default Account option.

Yes, that would be my understanding -- the iOS device will always use a cloud-service for contacts (if available) and if more than one is available then you see the option to designate a default service.
