won't record voiceover

So I am sure there is a post about this but I can't find an answer that will work. I have final cut pro 10.4.5 and for some reason, it recognizes my microphone (Yeti) but nothing shows up on the "sound bars" when I try to test the microphone, and it won't record anything. Oddly enough, in system preferences, it sees the microphone just fine and I can see my voice in the "sound bar" area as well (gain is set to a reasonable level). Why is FCPX not working? I also tried the internal microphone and that does not work in FCPX either.
