I am obviously not a teckie...I am of the older generation and need to have more storage on my ipad. How can I do that? my icloud had 5 GB and I have only used almost 3 GB, yet when I try to download things it says I do not have enough storage. Help!

You can not add or expand iPad storage. The size is fixed. You can subscribe to iCloud storage as much as 1TB (if I'm not mistaken) but iCloud storage will not increase your iPad storage. Another way to put it, if you have a 32GB iPad and you subscribe to 50GB iCloud storage, total usable size does not become 82GB (32 GB + 50 GB) but it remains 32GB.
The only way to make room on your iPad storage is to start deleting apps, video, photos etc. Another way is to sell your iPad and buy an iPad with larger storage size.

Now I understand better, I am going to delete some of my heavier things that I do not use much but have downloaded on my ipad. I transferred my pictures to my computer, and saved some space.
