playing video in iPhoto

I have recently come back to importing my iPhone (and families iPhones) media into iPhoto, as Lightroom 6 is not supporting video. So I tried to download 7,000-9,000 photo/video to iPhoto. It stalled very close to the end, and I had to reboot. I found what looks like most of the files in a recovery folder, and imported them into iPhoto. Some where unrecognised. I've looked through them and they appear to mostly be correct. But when I go to play a video it says "A necessary data reference could not be resolved". If I locate the video in the folder, there is an unreadable QT file and a perfectly playable MP4 file. How do I resolve this issue?
