Before updating to Mojave (I now have 10.14.4), I had a 'Favorites' icon in the toolbar, and I had placed a number of sites in Favorites. After updating to Mojave, I found that my Favorites was empty, and I have now partially repopulated it. But the toolbar icon has gone. Is there any way of putting it back into the toolbar?

Thank you, PM, that confirms my observation. But I am not currently concerned with Photos. I am concerned with websites like various libraries and encyclopaedias, whose URLs I had placed in Favorites in Safari. How do I request the restoration of the Favorites button in Safari?
Do you have Time Machine enabled? If so go to your Users/Home/Library/Safari folder, select the Bookmarks.plist file and enter Time Machine. Go back in time until just before you updated Mojave and restore that file. That will restore your bookmarks to what they were before the update.
Yes, it does (and it can be toggled on and off in the View menu; I have it on). But I was being either blind or obtuse: because I was looking for the old Favorites button, I failed really to look at what is contained in the Favorites bar. I now see that it contains the contents of my Favorites folder! Thank you for pointing me in the right direction — my problem is solved.
Thank you, Old Toad. It was not the contents of 'Favorites' that I wanted to restore; I have done that manually. It was the missing button that I was after. But I now realize that the Favorites bar shows the contents and makes the button redundant.
Does your Safari View menu show "Show Favorites Bar"?
Have you tried "Customize toolbar..." in the View menu?
