Not ALL photos on iPhone showing up in Photo application

I can plug my iPhone 5s into a PC and simply by browsing to the folders on my iPhone see everything. I can't do that on a Mac. When I try to view them through the Photo app, it shows a quite a few photos, but not nearly all of them. It shows at the top " New Items ( 369 items ) ". That's not all of them. How can it get it to show all ?

Hello John-AVUSD,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to import all of the pictures on your iPhone to a Mac. To help with this, please follow the relevant steps in this Apple resource on your situation:

If you can't import photos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer

Cheers!

To see all photos, scroll the Import window. The "Already Imported" section is on top of the "New Items". Drag the import panel down to reveal the top section. Hopefully the "Already Imported" will then be shown.

Your system versions should certainly match.

Have you tried to download the photos with Image Capture, since you do not want them in your Photos Library anyway?

Image Capture is giving more information about import problems than Photos. In Image Capture I can see the tiny cloud icon to the right of the iPhone icon, telling me, that the problem is, that iCloud Photos has become enabled on my iPhone. I would have to disable it, to be able to download from the iPhone via a USB connection.

The "Please wait" never goes away.

Nope. My issue is NOT that I can not import photos. My issue, as I stated, I can not SEE all the photos on my phone. I have not imported more and a few pictures onto a Mac from my phone. I do not store them there, as a rule. But, when I want to get one, I need to be apple to SEE it on my phone to do anything. I see all of them on a PC.

That is what I meant, sorry for not being clear. When you plug in the iPhone, it may show the photos on the iPhone scrolled, so that only the new photos are shown. And the scroll bars may be hidden, so you do not see that the panel needs scrolling down. Have you tried to scroll the view down to see the photos that may be hidden above the "New Items"?

Which system version is installed on your iPhone and on your Mac? Since the upgrade to Mojave I am also not seeing most of the photos, when I am plugging my iPhone into my Mac, neither in Photos nor in Image Capture. Image Capture is just showing "Preparing" and Photos just a few items.

I have scrolled up.

Mac OS : 10.14.4

iPhone: 12.1.4

I think this is an instance where Apple has gone so far trying to make things "simple" they've gone past that mark and made them stupid. You would think that two Apple products connected would work better than a PC and Mac product, but it doesn't.

Mac OS and iOS may not always HAVE the same versions, so needing to match would not always be an option. Like now. I have the most updated version available on my devices.

So, what your suggesting is I need to use a different program to see the photos on my phone from my Mac ?

This would be so much simpler if Apple would just let it appear as folders on a removable device, like the PC does.
