macbook pro migration assistent wants to use wifi

It appears when I migrate from a Macbook Air 7,2 to a brand new Macbook Pro, even with usb ethernet adapters on both ones and ethernet, migration assistent will only recognize the wifi connection to migrate. I was forced to clone to an external hard drive to migrate all the data. Does anyone know a way to force the migration assistent to use the ethernet? The lights on both adapters were active, yet it said it was connected to the wifi. And then when it tried to migrate 90 GB of data it said 18 hours. Doing a clone takes under an hour.

Often when both Wi-Fi and Ethernet are on the Mac will default to Wi-Fi. The answer is to turn off Wi-Fi. However, connecting your TM disk to the new Mac is a better, faster option.
