New iMac with Radeon Pro 575X - Can I Connect Additional Monitors?

I'm about to order a new 2019 iMac 27", but since it'll be used only for audio production I've decided to save a few bucks by going with the Radeon Pro 575X graphics card.

However, this article says something that leads me to believe the 575X can't support additional monitors:

Is that true, or am I misunderstanding? Eventually, down the road, I may want to connect one external monitor to my iMac... or even use my 12.9" iPad pro as an extra "monitor." Will the 575X support this?

You misunderstand. The current iMacs have built in video cards that output through the built in Thunderbolt 3 ports.

All 3 video cars option on the iMacs support up to 2 external monitors.

The iMac can support the following monitor options:

One 5120‑by‑2880 (5K) external display at 60Hz with support for 1 billion colors, or

Two 3840-by-2160 (4K UHD) external displays at 60Hz with support for 1 billion colors, or

Two 4096‑by‑2304 (4K) external displays at 60Hz with support for millions of colors

The iPad cannot be used as a monitor regardless.

From the specs:

Two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports with support for:
- DisplayPort
- Thunderbolt (up to 40Gb/s)
- USB 3.1 Gen 2 (up to 10Gb/s)
- Thunderbolt 2, HDMI, DVI, and VGA supported using adapters (sold separately)
