After the latest update won’t install I have tried to restore it too but no luck either it just hangs with the message ‘Waiting for iPhone’ in iTunes. It’s an iPhone SE that was working fine this morning - I am trying to reuse it for my daughter, but now it’s totally unresponsive and I have a crazy teenager 😐

Depending on the exact scenario, sometimes "waiting for iPhone" means the iPhone is locked and requires you to enter its passcode to proceed.
If that's not the issue, then we need a much more detailed account of exactly what actions you've taken and what you've seen after each step.
Think I have figured it out- my computer needed an update of OS - seems to be willing to do it now. At least it has got further than before in updating under recovery mode so crossing my fingers 😊
