Why is my Mac (macOS High Sierra 10.13.6) wanting to do Security Update 2019-002, when I have already done that update March 28?

I have already installed "Security Update 2019-002 10.13.6" on my Mac (on Mar 28).

Now App Store is advising me to install what appears to be the exact same update. All the wording on App Store is exactly the same, as is the link shown for more information......

What is going on here?

I had exactly the same issue: I just let App Store go ahead and install again; the only problem being the waste of time. I had to go and make tea and open a packet of chocolate Hob-Nobs (cookies for those across the pond). Some clouds do have a silver lining!

This issue has occurred before a few times and I have just viewed it as a minor irritation rather than a real problem. I suspect it might be due to an incorrect entry in "Receipts" but as it's never caused a problem, and I always make sure my Carbon Copy Cloner backup is fully up to date before any system update, I just accept it as an occasional gremlin.

Updates like this one are more than a minor annoyance for people like myself who are on an Internet connection that is relatively slow and/or with a download limit. I have Automatic Updates turned off because of this, and only do updates (manually) in "Off-Peak" times when I get additional download allowance.

I would appreciate it if someone could actually tell me why my Mac wants to do the same updates more than once, and whether there is a way to fix it so I don't have to repeat the same updates multiple times.

Sounds plausible, BUT....

There is absolutely nothing displayed on App Store that tells me they are two different releases.

The descriptions (in App Store) of the installed update and the pending update are IDENTICAL in all respects.

If you are correct, and Apple has found a major bug in the original release, then there should be SOMETHING in App Store to tell users that this is the case.

We don't all have the luxury of letting Automatic Updates do its own thing!

Thanks for the info.

I am now getting the impression that Apple simply doesn't want users to know about things like this, and just hopes they will do automatic updates and be none the wiser.......

As I said, that doesn't help people like myself who are trying to minimise downloads, and therefore need to be sure an update is necessary before going ahead.

I think in future I should hold off doing large updates for a week or two, and hope Apple has fixed any major problems by then.
