MacBook Pro wifi pop up not working

This occurs at Starbucks and T-Mobile, and many other spots with a pop-up log-in but not all.

This morning my iPad Pro worked fine, and connected to the Starbucks Network, but my iPhone XS Max will not, but my iPhone 6s popped up a dialog to put in my name and email and it will always work. Did this and it works fine. All have current software. My laptop is a MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch, Early 2013.

I am submitting this via my iPad Pro as it is the only device that will connects.

Error received is via window titled ‘Join “Google Starbucks” ‘

Message:

A problem occurred

The webpage couldn’t be loaded.

Dialog box: [OK]

There is no browser open (google chrome or safari)

Opening Google Chrome and trying to log onto Apple.com, provides the following information:

No Internet

Try:

  • Checking the network cables, modem, and router.
  • Reconnection to Wi-Fi

I have a full connection to the “Google Starbucks”, however no network access....

iPhone XS Max, iOS 12

There was a recent substantial discussion about this very issue.

It seems the DNS message can not get through, so your request can not be completed because it lacks the "Internet Phone number".

Ons suggested solution was to open

System preferences > Network > Wi-Fi ...

... and note the IP Address of the ROUTER (at Starbux, your hotel, or whatever public place). Then type that IP Address into the URL bar, as if requesting a web site directly from the Router. Users reported the log in page appears.

Another suggestion was to enter a numeric IP address. One really easy one to remember is 1.1.1.1, the IP address of a fairly new public DNS service. The Router log in page often appears instead. Or enter Apple's US main page IP Address, 17.142.160.59.
