MacBook Pro internal screen won't turn on after unplugging it from external monitor?

When I unplug my MacBook Pro from my external monitor, the internal screen just stays black and won't turn back on again, unless I manually reboot the computer. Is there a way I can fix this without having to restart my computer every time I want to use my MacBook without the external monitor?

I have this issue too; it is only as of the last few weeks though. The Touch Bar gives the option buttons to mirror displays or external display but escaping out or clicking either of them all result in a blank screen. Only solution is to reboot the entire computer.
