Apple watch series 4 battery drain about 15% per hour without any active app

I have an apple watch series 4 and the battery can only last for about 6 hours after a full charge. I went to the apple store to have it diagnosed but nothing was wrong with the watch(at least this is what I was told based on the diagnose result). Also tried send it to the repair center for deep diagnoses but they cannot find any issue with the watch and just sent it back to me. I've tried unpair/repair the watch, set it up as new watch without installing any app on it, turn off background app refresh on the watch, disable wake screen on wrist raise etc. but none of them solve the problem. Apple customer service said there mush be some background app refresh that is draining the battery since nothing with the battery is wrong, but they cannot fix the issue or point out what app it is. The watch is basically useless at this point since I don't want to charge it every 6 hours. Any help is appreciated.

@TygerMane Have you tried reinstalling both phone and watch as new devices? I started having this same problem after the last update. I tried all the troubleshooting steps, turning just about everything on the watch off (including the screen), no extra apps installed, and my battery lasted no more than 6-8 hours. I have AppleCare+, so they did an express replacement even though they said the battery tested fine. The replacement started doing the same thing once I updated to the latest watchOS. In desperation, I finally wiped and reinstalled my phone as a new device, then paired the watch as a new device, and I now have 40-50% battery left after 12-14 hours. I still have lots turned off and no extra apps installed, but the watch is more usable now. I'm hoping the impending upgrade to watchOS 6 helps with battery life.

Sure...no problem.

When the Apple Support specialist suggested the un-pairing / re-pairing, I will admit that I was skeptical that would address the issue. I thought it was a premature failure with the battery. I did not tell them that because as I like to always remember -- my son-in-law has a coffee cup (he is a surgeon) on his desk that says "Don't substitute your Google search for my professional opinion." LOL.

That's disgusting to hear, I have the same problem also... I paid good money for it like everyone else and the battery barely makes 12 hours... usually runs flat before I go to bed. Apple need to be made accountable for these faulty batteries.. if they don't sort mine out I will take it to consumer affairs!! They sold these watches with "long life" batteries my watch is only 1 year old... not good enough in my books.

I think the problem is because the watch is not designed to fulfil the specs as desired and proposed. I have had the problems some months ago and somehow it was solved, I really don't know how but somehow. Now I figured out again that by stressing the watch with activities and turning on WiFi and especially Mobile Data the battery gives up early after 8 hours (10% capacity remaining) and since the day is not over I have to charge at 5 o'clock because the day is not over yet -:).

I know only, it is a pretty poor performance (or show???) from Apple to praise a product which is simply not worth the money we are paying for. I know only that my next watch won't be any Apple Watch 5, 6 or 7 but some product I can rely on without being afraid of staying in the middle of nowhere and without power on my watch. Or does anyone know a place where is a changing station coming from the sky with best greetings from the manufacturer?

Yes, I agree with you, by switching off some apps and functions the battery life can be extended. It means only that the watch is not working as it is proposed. By switching on all functions and apps and using them as advertised by Apple, the watch will be dead after 6 hours latest? Thank you, it should not be named Apple Watch but Apple avoid to use applications and functions Watch...

Dear dgford, all this has been discussed in the past, turning off this and that, deactivating this and that. This is not what I'm and many others expecting from the AppleWatch. We should call the watch the "Turn-off and Deactivation Watch"? It doesn't help much to have have 30 different watch faces and 100 opportunities to adjust them and to show us what apps we could use but if we would use them we have to charge the battery every 2 hours. I have expected more than this expensive toy, something I can read the time and measure my activities and not having a toy on my wrist not knowing if I can read the time after 3 or 5pm or not. A solar cell would be helpful to support the battery life but this is probably not wanted. Better we buy and complain here, the Apple accounts will be filled by some fools anyway (including me)

Hi,

i've the same issue. I've bought my AW S4 at october 2019. During the first months no any issue about battery drain.

I have enabled notifications from whatsapp only and "daily goals" reminders (as "stand up"). Heart rate monitor was active.

Usually, i use the watch from 8.00 am till 19/20 pm, then i turn of it during the night.

The most important thing: i use AW to swim (3 times per week, about an 1 hour).

Suddenly a month ago, i noticed it drain battery too fast.

Before I could use it for 2 and a half days from the last charge; now 1 day and a half. Currently due to restrictions from Codiv-19, I use the "training" app for 1 hour (4/5 times a week).

I've already tried a full reset as a new, and sw is up to date, but it not solved the issue.

Please, someone have any idea ?

Best regards

Luca

I was having the same problem but it seems to be solved. How? I don't know. By turning off all apps, which are not necessary to be used? I mean this cannot be the intention of this watch and every buyer would have had other intentions when buying this watch. I use this watch mainly for recording my exercises and finally in 99% of all days, the watch is lasting the full day. Unfortunately, and I don't know why, some days (that's why 99% only) the watch is dead at 5pm, a time many are somewhere on the go and then I could throw the watch in the bin because it is ridiculous to have some expensive device not lasting at least the 16 or 18 hours I am awake. Again, a small solar cell would have done it to support the battery but this is not wanted by Apple I guess.

What about the watch when the battery is on 80% after maybe 1 year? Then I need a mobile charging station with me when I am somewhere?
