Compressor to ProRes creates second jpeg video stream

Knowing that motion jpeg will not be supported in the upcoming macOS, I'm concerned that compressor is rendering ProRes with the occasional 2nd video stream encoded as motion jpeg. It's happened with 5 of my recent renders. I've simply added the job to compressor and chosen the default ProRes 422 settings. Yet I get a second stream in the file. If I add the rendered ProRes and try again, I get the same issue. The details for one of the files are pictured below.

How do I solve this? Is there a compressor fix coming?

Thanks for any help,

Greg

I did send to Compressor and use the default ProRes 422 as it's only 1920x1080.

The app that shows the information is called Media Inspector from the App Store. I believe it is reporting correctly. As a slow prep for the demise of certain codecs, I've created some saved searches in finder. The Finder saved search looking for movies with including the codec jpeg shows this same file as well as a few others.

What is odd is the media for the files that have this error are very different. For example, the one that I sent you today is largely an instructional piece with screen captures etc. You can see the instructional video on Youtube here. However, I also get the error for a multicam project of classical music. It has no screen captures or anything like that. It's just film of the music with a little intro that I've used on 31 other videos that don't show that problem. You can see the classical music piece on YouTube here. Both were edited in FCPX and then sent to compressor.

Also pictured below is the info for the classical piece.

One other note is that Compressor is crashing pretty consistently when I set up a new job with the output of the previous job.

Typically I render a ProRes to keep and a lighter file for upload. Lately Compressor crashes as soon as it starts the second job. The first job - the ProRes render turns out fine. When I add that back to Compressor it usually renders fine too. I confess I've been less than impressed with Compressor the last few months.

Anyway, I don't know that the issues are linked. While it seems like a slim chance, I thought I should note it.

I'm using 10.14.4. The classical music was on an earlier version of macOS. You are correct, I am not seeing an error on the jpegs. It seems like an error to me when I'm asking for it to render a single ProRes video stream to have a second track. I was nervous of having jpeg in a video stream also. If I won't have a problem in future macOS versions because it's not motion jpeg, that's great. I'm still curious as to how it's happening or if I can stop it.

You refer to not seeing an error anywhere using the file. What file are you using/testing?

I agree. It is very odd. If it were only the instructional video composed mostly of screen captures and graphics creating the jpeg, I'd be more likely to think there was footage in the project that FCPX didn't handle quite as well. But the fact that it's happening with a few of the classical concerts as well is odd. I'm a little nervous that at some point those masters won't play well. But I'm also unable to transcode those files to a single track ProRes in Compressor.

You refer to an error. What’s the error you get? Where? Again in the second piece. This isn’t MotionJPEG. It’s one frame of a JPEG file.

I use Media Info. I think that application is gone from the App Store or renamed. Media Info also shows an extended JPEG track with ProRes. I don’t know what it does, but I’m not seeing any error message anywhere when using this file.
