What is a good Mac Mini model to upgrade memory and storage

I am looking for a Mac Mini model that I can upgrade both memory and storage. My current iMac 21.5 only has 8gb and Mojave is killing it (slow, slow, slow). Can't afford new Mini. I do have a technical background so using upgrades from company like Macsales.com would like to find a Mini I can upgrade as much as possible.

Mac mini 2018 or later

The Late 2012 Mac Mini.

I have a couple with SSDs and 16GB of RAM running Mojave. They are pretty awesome little machines and I like to call them the poor man's Mac Pro...

As mentioned, besides getting up there in years, the Late 2012 Mac Mini will most likely will not be able to go past Mojave.

Plus the other problem with the Late 2012 Mac Mini is that is had held it's value and all vendor's, plus most private folks are still asking a good price. For example: macsales is still asking $450 for stock unit.

FWIW, I'm starting to think that saving up for the $800 to $1100 2018 model is actually a better option, than spending $800 to $1000 buying and upgrading a Late 2012 model.

Wow. I appreciate all the replies but yours told me what i will do. I'll pickup a 2012 Mac Mini from Macsales.com, have it configured with 16gb ram, and 1Tb SSD. I found a couple of Asus 21" and 23" monitors with hdmi and vesa mounts, and couple mounting brackets on Amazon so I can mount it to back of the monitor whichever I get. I think as configured the Mini was $729 which is still lot less than buying new one.
