why cant I underline or make bold the subject heading in an email but I can within the text of the email?

Why will the subject/heading in an email not allow U/B everything else appears in the black bar (select, paste, insert etc) but not the bold option? Please help

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 12

You can't.


The body of an email can be formatted as either plain text or HTML; the text styling is implemented through HTML code. The subject line must be plain text.

The subject line in gmail is the heading. If you double tap any text it will go blue and a black bar appears with options to CUT, PASTE, italics, underline bold etc. This works within the body of the email, the b/u/i always appears but I cannot get it in the heading where I would like it to be, to make the subject stand out . It seems odd that you can underline or embolden within the email but not the heading. I wish I knew how to do this
