Airpods Wireless Case Metal Strip

When wirelessly charging the airpods in the wireless case, the metal strip on the back becomes extremely hot. It takes a little time to cool down before you can handle the case. Is this normal/safe?

Wireless charging on any device can cause a rise in temperature. This is normal. Do keep in mind that the hinge is metal, and metal can get quite warm when exposed to heat. If, however, you feel as if it is too hot, or could be a defect, please contact Apple Support for further help.
