I'm upgrading a late '14 MBP w/ a 1TB Samsung/Apple SSD... Recovery OS wont allow me to format it... help. :)

I bought a 1 TB Samsung/Apple SSD that works on the later gen MacBook Pro retinas. The problem I has is... The guy wiped the SSD with a windows machine and.. the computer is not letting me format it w/ Disk utilities because either it doesn’t see it- or, when it has seen it, it won’t mount. What are my options?

In advance, thank you!

The guy? Was this at a Apple Store or AASP?

It is new or used SSD?

External enclosure or internally installed?

If it is internal, try Recover (command R), or a USBinstaller or boot off a Time Machine ** (option key) and use the Disk Utility there.

Can you mount the drive in DiskUtility? How is it formatted now?

DiskUtility>View>Show All Devices you erase/partition/format the parent drive.

It is a used Samsung/Mac SSD from eBay-described as, "Apple 1TB SSD 655-1810D - Samsung MZ-KPU1T0T/0A6 MacBook Pro Retina L2013-2015"

I can't mount it in disk utility - sometimes it shows in disk utility -accessed via recovery- sometimes not. My son suggested trying to format it in Terminal.

Sorry- I didn't answer one of your questions- it is internally installed - as I don't have the correct external enclosure- which might be part of the problem.

I do have Time Machine **- I'll try that.

Thanks so much for the help!!

Good luck, let's hope it is not dead in the water—always a possibility.
