I have done a fair or research on this but no amount of Safari settings stop this happening on Apple News.
Does anyone have any advice? The only way I can find to stop it immediately is to close the session in the normal manner, and then reopen Apple News, but it always come back

Thanks for the feedback, this is what I suspected, but so difficult to confirm unless you have done this research. All search come up with same solution, so hopefully Apple will address this issue as it’s damages the Apple News experience.
Will still keep the ad blocker suggested so thanks for sharing.
Thanks for responding and sharing, it doesn’t work with Apple News though as I’m trying it and got the same issue. I’m not sure Apple News uses Safari.
