Unable to add Duration data format to cells with formulas in them

I have a spreadsheet with calculations of different times, as numbers of minutes. The sum of these times are in a formula, expressed in a whole number representing minutes as well. I'm unable to change the format of the formula cells to express duration; when I select it from the dropdown menu, nothing changes. Any thoughts? I'd really like to see the minutes converted to hours and minutes, and not just divide by 60 to get hours and decimal portion of hours.

Duration formats apply only to Duration values. Your formula is producing a Number value, not a Duration.

Use the DURATION function to convert the number of minutes to a Duration value.

Place your formula where I've place the reference to C2.

You can delete the tokens for weeks, days, and hours, but the three commas preceding the reference to the cell containing, or the formula calculating, the number of minutes must be included in the function's argument list. The separators and argument tokens after the cell reference or formula may be deleted. the resulting formula above would then have this appearance:

The value in the cell containing the formula is a Duration, and can be formatted to display hours and minutes using the Data Format section of the Format Inspector:
