Clearing Completed Reminders

I log int to iCloud and clear my completed reminders. It shows 0 completed reminders. Rather than that propagating to my iMac, iPad and iPhone, the gigantic number of completed reminders propagates back to iCloud and repopulates the completed reminders list. How do I get the cleared completed reminders list to remain cleared?

Delete a list

Select the reminder list you want to delete.
WARNING: When you delete a reminder list, the list is deleted on every device where you turned on iCloud Reminders. All the reminders it contains are also deleted.
Press the Delete or Backspace key.
