FAKE IPHONE UPDATE

I just had a pop-up window appear that says my iPhone needs to be updated - it acted like it was downloading and then said iTunes had to quit to install. At that point I stopped everything because I recognized it was not using the normal protocol and I could not see an updater or any other application running.

Clearly this is malware - does anyone know what it is and how to find it and get rid of it?

iPhone 6s, iOS 12

Good question. I looked at the dock to see what was running that I didn't recognize and nothing. I flipped between spaces/applications and it didn't seem to be tied to the browser - didn't even look like a browser pop-up - looked more like a discreet application. Seemed to be tied to the finder.

Looked into Activity Monitor but couldn't spot anything there - checked a few things I wasn't sure about but those were Mac sub-routines.

Looked at Safari extensions and I don't really use many and recognize everything that's there.

Looked at Login Items - everything I recognized.

Just seemed to popup out of nowhere looking like an application.
