Unable to eject disk from USB Superdrive

I can't eject the disk from the Superdrive. I've tried Command E, ejecting the disk, restarting the machine and holding down the shift key etc. When I unplug the drive and plug it in again, it mounts OK on the desktop. Strange!

Mac mini, macOS 10.14

If no other options work, try rebooting your system with the Superdrive Connected and holding down your left mouse button, this should force the drive to eject prior to entering MacOS.

I managed it. It appears that you have to eject within a very few seconds of remounting the disk. In other words, unplug the Superdrive, then re-plug it into the USB port, and almost immediately press Command Eject, several times. Hopefully the disk will eject, as it did for me this time.
