IPhone not connecting to MacBook Air

Hi everybody,

I have a MacBook Air 2017 and an iPhone 8.

Macbook running on MacOs Mojave 10.14.4 & IPhone on IOS 12.2

When I plug my iPhone into system my iPhone oscillates connecting and disconnecting rapidly.

When plugged other devices like usb, hard disk, etc. it works absolutely fine.

Therefore the iTunes is not able to take my backup.

Usb port recognises my device but iTunes doesn't work.

Please Help!

MacBook Air 13", macOS 10.14

Any better now in a normal mode? FWIW I find that sometimes the lightning connection works better in one orientation than the other, usually the one opposite to the way the cable wants to lie.
