Sandisk Portable SSD shows 2x usage / one-half capacity.

Hi Apple Support Community!

I purchased a SanDisk Extreme 1TB Portable SSD - ExFAT format - and synced my ~320gb ~/pictures folder to it. On a MacBook running 10.14.4. Both the Disk Utility and the "Get Info" window show the SSD with ~800gb utilized. Looking at the contents it is as expected with, in addition to misc. smaller items, an old IPhoto library (130gb) and my current Photos library (185gb) that in total are ~320gb.

See pics.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Mike

Not sure why it's doing that, but probably has something to do with the ExFat format and the Windows drivers on the disk since it came formatted that way.

I'd use Disk Utility to reformat the drive completely. If you need ExFat to share with Windows, that's fine. Otherwise, I'd format it Mac OSX Extended Journaled.

This will erase the drive, so if you need to, back up the info on it first.
