Pages color dropdown?

After typing a paragraph, is there a way to have the color format option just drop down to change the word to a different color? This is a feature I'm used to in Microsoft Word.

When I double click the word, I have to select format, then click the color I want to change the word to. I tried adding the color icon on the pages toolbar. Same thing, it pops up a window of all the colors to choose from. Sometimes the word change colors, sometimes they stay black.

In pages, since I do a lot of color changes, the color window box is in the way, then I have to close it and re-open it for the colors to change.

If you want Word features use Word or LibreOffice. Pages is neither a Word clone, nor was its development over time, influenced by Word features. What you have experienced with the Pages color well, or color chooser (globe) is exactly the way it works. The toolbar color tool is just a change of location, and nothing more.

You can create new character styles from words set to frequently used colors, and then it is a double-click to select the word, and as simple as a keyboard shortcut from F1 - F8 to assign the associated color to the selected word.

Where/how would I set up the features for the function keys?

Another option, is there a way to input favorite colors on the dropdown. I've placed an arrow in the pic for the location of reference.
