Swipe up quickly from the bottom to get directly to the home screen. It’s more of a flick up on the screen from the bottom.
Or slowly swipe up from the bottom of the screen and then release your finger when you are about halfway up the screen. That takes you to the app switcher. Tap anywhere on the background to go to the home screen.
Try to ask Siri to open settings by holding down the power button
The Settings app icon should be on your home screen. You don’t need the home button.
Cannot get to the home screen, that is the problem. :)
