Unable to get the internal mic working, reset everything, still not working. Seems to have happened since install of MacOS Mojave

Have you tried to go into the security preferences to allow whatever app you are trying to use to access the microphone?
i have exactly this issue right now. It is like all of sudden no audio built in hardware, it is vanished from the setting. I can confirm that the microphone does work when i use it in bootcamp situation. I suspect that there is bug in mojave. I dont know what else to do. Have you figured out yet?

Try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262
Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5-10 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches, dynamic loader cache, etc. get cleared and rebuilt.
You can test in this environment then reboot as normal and test.
Sadly the Safe Boot does not make any difference, but thanks for the tip. Only things left are create a new admin user, and full rebuild. Bit much to have to do that, as this seems to me to be a software issue with Mojave.
As a postscript tp this, the hardware for sound input and output vanished form the system after a dafe boot. Like it does not exist. Even sudo killall coreadudiod in the terminal does not bring it back.
