Try downloading the manual from the link below to see if it will answer most of your questions.

How often you need to run it depends on your Internet use, your downloads, and how careful you are about where you go on the Internet. Once an hour should be more than adequate.

There is a free version of Malwarebytes that has less features than the paid version. The initial download is the full feature version. If you don't subscribe, you get downgraded to the version with less features. See the manual.

The Activate License is for after you subscribe.

You would be paying Malwarebytes. The program was written Thomas R, a long time poster.

Thanks for answering my first question. Now I have additional questions. I had several PUPs which apparently came from what I thought was an innocent upgrade to a browser support app. The apps looked suspicious and I couldn't seem to get rid of them and my whole system slowed down where it was taking up to a minute to just open a web page on any one of my browsers. Someone on the forum suggested Malwarebytes, which I downloaded and ran, which seems to have restored my system and I got rid of the PUPs. The app "Reports" indicate: 2 threats quarantined, 3 detected and remediated. Then under "manual scan" it shows 24 "Threats" detected, 23 remediated. Then under "Real-time" scan it shows 1 threat, 1 remediated.

My new questions now are:

1. My Malwarebytes "settings" show default action "Quarantine" What does that mean? I thought I got rid of them.

2. I'm set by default to check for PUPs every hour. Is this what I should have? If not, why?

3. Info on this app indicates I have a "Trial" version, but says it "...will be downgraded from Premium to Free in 13 days." What does that mean?

4. A box shows "Activate License." What does that mean and should I click it and why?

5.The "Upgrade Now" box indicates a cost to me of $60 for personal use, $120 for office per year. Who would I be paying this to? Is this the Apple iTunes Store? If not, I want to know who I'm dealing with. It's not like I can pay in cash and I don't want to give out my credit card to an unknown business.
