Thanks Rich, I decided to go with the Sony HDR AX2000 because it's new and it uses Memory Stick and SD cards instead of tape.
Though depending on how much fun I'm having, I still might buy a nice used tape based recorder like the HVR-V1U.
Again Thanks for helping me.
Much Peace, Charles
Hi Rich, I'd like to down load and print the owners manual for my Sony HDR AX2000 camera without having to down load some weird 3rd party man.lib application from the internet that I know nothing about.
I'm trying to figure out how to get the manual straight from Sony's web site, but I can't even get to Sony's web site ?
Surely Sony has a web site and down loadable pdf owners manual for both new and old products
Much Peace and thank you for helping me, Charles
Hi,
I don't see the the HDR AX 2000 listed on Apple's website of supported cameras.
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204202#sony
That doesn't necessarily mean that it won't work with iMovie. Also, if it is a tape based camera, most of those work with iMovie. However, when the camera is not listed as unsupported the only sure way to know if it will work with iMovie is to try it out.
iMovie works with AVDHD and I believe also with Mpeg 2. If you had any issues, you could always use a video converter like the free download, Handbrake, to convert the AVCHD .mts files, and/or Mpeg 2, to Mp4/AAC that iMovie particularly likes.
You can get Handbrake here:
Sometimes an unsupported camera won't import directly into iMovie. In that case you have the option to import into the Photos app and then access the clips from within iMovie via the Photos item in the iMovie project media sidebar. Another option is to import from the camera onto your Mac using the Image Capture app found in the Utilities folder on your Mac.
