garageband media browser problem

Garageband crashes trying to load all of the music/movies/apple loops/photos whenever I open the media browser. This page, https://www.karelia.com/support/sandvox/help/z/Media_Browser.html , outlines where the Garageband media browser pulls its files from. How do I disallow this and only have the Garageband media browser search for and load audio that I place in it. I have worked with apple support over the phone already and the attempted solutions from them were appreciated but ineffective.

I've heard a solution (that supposedly works for the Photos app,) is to reroute garageband's inquiry to an empty folder that it believes is my iTunes Library but I don't know how to do this.

In the iTunes Preferences > Advanced tab is a setting "iTunes Media Library location". You can use the "Change" button there to create a second iTunes Library. And switch iTunes to this second library, before you start GaragenBand.

Or keep your iTunes Library on an external drive, that you dismount before starting GarageBand.
