When using Final Cut Pro-X, the default shape of the curve of the audio transition does not seem changeable. Is there a way to change the default shape of the audio transition curve and if so how? I am not looking to change the individual curve in the transition on a single clip that I am working. As far as I can see I can NOT change the default for all future curve shapes.

This appears to be "hardwired" into Final Cut Pro. There are no options to set the crossfades either in Motion or within the XML for any given transition (that I could determine...).
You can try to Provide Final Cut Pro Feedback (from the Final Cut Pro menu) and request the feature. It seems to me that the defaults should be +3dB and not any of the others. The ability to set that as a preference seems a good idea to me.

If you're using a transition, then check the Transition Inspector. You should find options for Audio Crossfade fade types:
If you are doing straight audio fades, you can change the fade type in the storyline like:
Mouseover the edge of the clip until the "button" appears, click on it and drag it out. Then right click on it to popup the fade type menu.
I know these and tried them again and they do not do what I need. I am trying to change the default audio transition shape, so when I apply a new transition to a clip, the shape is not the +3db which seems to be the fixed default. Can I change that default? In your image above the S-curve is the default. How do I change the default?
