Find My Friends works on the iPad but says location not available on the iPhone./

Be certain "Share My Location" is "On".

If you open Apple Maps on your iPhone and click on the arrow does it locate you correctly on the map?
And you've done what sberman has said and made sure it is on (this would be on the iPhone). And are location services turned on?
My issue is that my friend's location say not locatable on the phone, but no problem on the ipad.
You failed to tell us there was an issue with your friend's location in your initial post. It certainly sounded like the issue was locating you.
Sorry, but that is the case.
Thanks for everyone's help. I found the date and time was not set on auto, and when I changed that Find My Friends started working. Whew!
