Torlock pop-ups.

I believe the Torlock site has installed a pop-up on my Macbook and I would like to get rid of it. I have done some research, but I am not confident I have been able to remove it.

See photo below.

Hello stu113!

This seems to be a chrome notification pop-up that may have been turned on by visiting a malicious page. The easiest fix would be to click on the “settings” button and remove/disable notifications for that website. If this does not work, feel free to follow up.

Thanks!

Those are notifications. They could come from either an app installed locally or from a web site you visited.

In your case, since there is a “Settings” button, this is probably from a locally installed app.

I wrote a little diagnostic program to help show what might be generating these notification. Download EtreCheckPro from https://www.etrecheck.com and run it. Normally, I would include instructions on how to post your EtreCheck report. But I think you can just go to the Security page in EtreCheckPro and look under the Notifications setting and locate the app. If not, you can create a new reply and use the "Notes" tool below to add your EtreCheck report.

It might also be a good idea to check your Safari notifications too. EtreCheckPro won’t be able to list these.

Go to Safari > Preferences > Websites

Then, under the “General” list on the left, click on “Notifications"

The list on the right will show all web sites that have asked for permission to show these kinds of notifications. You can safely deny any website or deny all notifications completely.

Disclaimer: EtreCheckPro is my own app. EtreCheckPro is free to use but has in-app purchases available (which are not required for what I’ve asked you to do above). Downloading EtreCheckPro or using it could give me some form of compensation, financial or otherwise.

I tried a demo site in Chrome that generates notifications but I didn’t get a “Settings” button.

I don’t advise clicking on that “Settings” button. When using Chrome, it should be possible to copy and paste this URL into the Chrome address bar:

chrome://settings/content/notifications

Unfortunately, the forum software doesn’t recognize that as a valid URL and won’t create a link.
