I don’t want to dial a number every time just to block it! Sure, I can dial a number and just block it after a quick hang up. Sure, I can create a Contact, assign the phone number to it, and then just add it as a “Blocked Caller”. Sure, I can use a Third Party App.
If you mean blocking a call you received so you never get a connection from that number again, go to the Recents list. Tap the information icon at the right of the number (the letter i in a blue circle). Scroll to the bottom and tap Block this Caller. In the future, your phone won't even ring if this number calls your phone.
No. I’ve never received a call from the number. Word has it, it’s a scam call going around locally.
I have a number I want to block; I can dial it, hang right up, and then select “Block this Caller”.
But dialing it, the number would have me as a caller.
Trying to pre-block a number is a complete waste of time. Scammers spoof dozens/hundreds of numbers with the same scam. Blocking one number you've seen only means you'll possibly get the same scam call from a different number.
Contact your carrier. If you're in the U.S., I believe all of the major carriers offer apps to help prevent spam and robo calls. My carrier is Verizon. They needed to enable the service on my account (I think a lot of calls get blocked before they ever make it to my phone) and there is an app as well. It's free (there is a paid level to the service as well but I don't see any need for it).

No, you can't just go to Settings>Phone>Call Blocking and Identification.
Then create a contact and block that contact.
Or just doing worry about it until and unless they actually call you.
Just wait to see if they call you. Then if they do don’t answer it. But then block it. Also they use spoof numbers so it would take a lot of blocking of numbers

That’s a Good Point.
TBH life’s to short to worry about spam calls.
I was afraid of that being the ultimate answer.
