My server provides McAfee Internet Security free of charge. On my Mac, I always keep the Apple OS Firewall on for extra protection. This redundancy prevents my HP scanner from functioning. Has anyone experienced a similar conflict? Is there a simple workaround?

Uninstall McAfee as per the developer's instructions. No Anti-Virus software or so-called “cleaning” apps are needed or recommended for Mac OS. They can conflict with Mac's own built-in security. At best they will slow your Mac by using unnecessary resources and at worst will bork your entire system.

If your Mac is behind a NAT router, then the Application Firewall is completely superfluous (as is McAfee regardless). Nothing can see your Mac. The NAT router prevents unsolicited traffic from the internet from having any way to contact your Mac.
No experienced user here would have McAfee installed at all.
Thanks for the advise. My router is an Arris NVG589, which I believe is a NAT router. The introduction of McAfee into my system was redundant and complicated matters more than necessary. I have uninstalled McAfeee.
