Cannot remove iCloud "ghosts" of podcast episodes from iTunes (12.9.4.94) on iMac.

This has only started recently — maybe since the most recent iTunes update? I download an episodes of a podcast (e.g. Wait, wait, don't tell me) listen to it, then delete it. But although the download disappears, the episode title remains in the list, with the iCloud icon beside it. It's even worse on some podcasts, such as KEXP's Song of the Day, where the ghosts of episodes going back to 2015 have reappeared and won't go away. Any suggestions on getting rid of this clutter?
