Recieving messages after iPhone restart.

I turned my iPhone off, and a few minutes after back on, but didnt use the phone much, after I got home I updated the IOS (new iPhone). After the updates was done I again didnt do much with it. Then at some point I got a Whatsapp message from ''12 minutes ago''. But when I opened it, it was send like 1 / 1,5 hours ago. I got the message after turning it back on, but before the update. But the message came way after the update. How is this possible?

I tested it. I turned off my iPhone, and back on. But I DIDNT unlock it right after. With another phone I send whatsapp messages to my phone. I DID NOT recieve them. Only after I unlocked the iPhone for the first time, messages cam through.

Last time, I almost right away installed updates after unlocking it for the first time, that should explain why I didnt recieve them.

Yes, it's related to restart. Whatsapp (and any other app) is shut down when you restart the phone. Until you open the app anything queued for it won't be displayed unless you have notifications enabled for the app and it has a cellular data connection.

I have a passion and hobby to go through complete literature and review of all iOS and needless to say I haven't missed iOS 12.1.3, 12.1.4 & 12.2 assessment published on various news media and on Apple web page including leading news magazines (Forbes & Fortune Magazines).

No where I could find any link on the problem of "Message" faced by you. Introspect and have a complete and thorough check on the way you handle settings on your iPhone.

Read often for a peaceful life.

Solution. Check your network coverage and internet connectivity

Thank you for your reply. I can remember that I had the same things on my old iPhone 6s. Only after I opened Whatsapp, they came through right away. At the moment I should have received the message, I had good internet coverage. Could it have something to do with the fact I restarted the phone?
