iCloud Storage

Anyone know if I purchase iCloud storage (50 GB plan), are my backups erased if I cancel my subscription (messages, photos, contacts, etc.).

Meaning, does anything past Apple’s 5GB free iCloud storage disappear?

For example, let’s say I use up all 50GB of iCloud storage. Then cancel. Is the excessive 45GB held/locked/saved until I reactivate my subscription. Or is it deleted since I’m not paying a fee.

Thanks!

Any excess will be deleted: there may be a short 'grace period' to allow for problems with the payment to be resolved. Unfortunately there's no way of knowing exactly what data would be deleted: other similar services delete the oldest first but there's be no evidence as to Apple's policy on this.
